‘Death Smiles on a Murderer’ (1973) - Joe D’Amato.

'Death Smiles on a Murderer’ (1973) is a gruesomely gorgeous, Gothic-tinged, darkly disturbing period-set Giallo/Horror hybrid by one of my favourite Italian genre film artists, the estimable cinematographer, and prolific producer/director, Joe D’Amato aka Aristide Massaccesi. For me, this dreamlike, sporadically cruel, weirdly erotic, deliciously doomy diorama of desperately diabolical love is one of maestro, Massaccesi's most visually resplendent works, and is certainly not to be missed by eager fans of maestro D’Amato’s salaciously sinful cinema, and would make for a wonderfully vivid primer for any cineastes not altogether familiar with this versatile filmmaker's singularly undervalued, memorably macabre shockers. I am far from objective about this stylishly mounted, nastily necrotic nightmare, since I remain a HUGE, HUGE fan of the delightfully degenerated, bodice rippingly compelling blood-chiller, 'Death Smiles on a Murderer', and I am quite convinced that the outré sensibilities of this grisly Gothic gem will inspire some irresistibly creepy cat scratch Klaus Kinski fever! Both the pristine visual resolution of the Arrow Video Blu-ray, and first rate content of the quality extra features are no less appealing than, exquisite Euro-starlet, Ewa Aulin's eyeball-popping lingerie!!!You say tomato, I say D'Amato, baby!!!

'My fingers smell funky!'

'I wish someone would hurry up and invent blinds already!'

'It's a butt-lift, but it's a two man job if ya catch my drift, Kinski!'

'That looks fine, Darling! Just hold that pose and I'll be back to check on you in a couple of days!

'Wha??? You want me to put my mask back on!!!!???? I can dig it!!!

'Get yer own frikken ladder, grab-hands!!!'

'Gently Bentley now! Just shave a little bit off the right iris!'

'Botox is perfectly safe as long as you don't over do it!

'My gran-gran had a tea cosy the same colour! That's pretty hot, Blondie!'
