'Space Truckers' (1996) - Stuart Gordon.
I never once ever felt that maverick genre genius, Stuart Gordon's sublimely silly sci-fi spectacular, 'Space Truckers' (1996) to be one of his lesser films, quite the contrary, as it has a wickedly knowing, blithely sardonic, idiosyncratically freewheeling ‘space-madness’ all of its very own! And, come on now??? Having the permanently stratosphere-surfing, spaced-out superstar Dennis Hopper as a ceaselessly cracking wise, cigar-sucking space captain and his preternaturally nubile crew of Stephen Dorf doing righteously earnest battle against the comic-book, malevolent machinations of that sinisterly salacious cyborg, the cosmos pillaging creep, Charles Dance, was always going to be a galactic-sized, atom-smashing classic! I really liked this when I first saw it way back in my analogue video haze, and I dig it unconditionally now! Crank up some Deep Purple and take a galactic gander at ‘Space Truckers’!!!!
