'Sahara' (1983) - Andrew V. McLaglen.
Even the searing, soul-slaying heat of the Sahara desert is no match for the recklessly red-lining, perkily petrol-headed Dale Cooper, excitingly portrayed by smouldering sex-kitten, Brooke Shields. Boasting one of Cannon Films largest budgets, their glamorously globe-trotting, pulse-pounding, gender-swapping, sensuously supercharged, breathlessly exotic, off-road racing, bullet-dodging, fun-bathed, piston-pounding adventure about a quixotic, unconventionally single-minded woman’s untamed, fearless passion for fast cars and her deeper yearning for dangerously hot-blooded romance makes for exhilaratingly escapist entertainment!
Joyfully, the intermittently spectacular, bizarrely underrated, charmingly silly, desert-set romance, ‘Sahara’ isn’t a miraculously exotic mirage, but another tremendously exciting motion picture from prolific independent producers, Golan-Globus. Put your brain in neutral, and take an occasionally bumpy, hair-raising thrill-ride with gifted action director, Andrew V. McLaglen's far-flung, free-wheeling, enjoyably old fashioned adventure! While the narrative often lacks sophistication, 'Sahara' is blessed with an appealing Ennio Morricone score, and is generously packed with more voluptuous thrills and spills than Russ Meyer's casting couch! Whether it's the exquisite Valentino schmutter, the sleek-looking vintage motors, Morricone's lush-sounding Score, or Brooke Shield's rakish moustache, the steamily romantic 'Sahara' caters for all tastes!
