'Kill 'em All' (2017) – Peter Malota.
Van Damme's innate playfulness and bellicose charm propelled the handsome, Lycra-clad Leg-Kicker from limber Breakdancing buffoon to international Box Office mega muscle. For avid DTV action fans a new Jean-Claude Van Damme actioner is usually a cause for celebration, as unlike many other more tarnished action icons of the 80s, he managed to remain remarkably consistent with his output. Credibly remaining in photogenically steel-thewed shape, JCVD's amiable formula of kooky characterisations, and gnarly, righteously blood-spattered bouts of kick boxing mayhem. Sadly, kill 'em all is somewhat of a misfire.
This routine actioner is far from the best of the pugnacious Belgian's recently invigorated tibia-trashing oeuvre. As always, the charismatic JCVD delivers another dynamic acting performance, and the fizzing chemistry between luscious co-star Autumn Reeser enlivens the formulaic shoot 'em up. Undone by stodgy, lacklustre villainy, the crypto-Balkan accents and 'Bullet-Proof Karate Man' proves unexciting. Loveable icon JCVD sticks a little too closely to his guns in 'Kill 'em all'. The steely, quick-quipping star's charisma, and signature wig-splitting tenacity unable to raise this above the mediocre!
