'Mad Dog Killer' (1977) Sergio Greico.
Sergio Greico's still notorious revenging nutbag on the rampage Poliziotteschi is the very rare example whereby the actively astringent content readily matches its deliciously nefarious reputation! 40 years after its iniquitous inception, the intense, Helmut Berger-starring, lunatic on the lam, knuckle-dusted, carjacking, Marissa Mell kidnapping, Euro-crime classic remains a pugnacious, full throttle sleaze-fest, wherein gonzo director Greico only rarely takes his blood-spattered, hob-nailed boot off the accelerator! From the impactful introduction of uncommonly sadistic sociopath, Nanni Vitali (Helmut Berger) via his bloody prison break, Greico's paranoid, searingly nihilistic tone remains unrelenting!
Vitali's insane predilection for brutality and sexual violence proves darkly fascinating, and the appropriately named 'Mad Dog Killer' seethes with misogynistic malevolence. The amiable Alpha, Richard Harrison is perfectly cast as heroic, Police Chief Santini, our muscular, moustachioed avenger desperate to end Vitali's psychopathic reign of terror. 'Mad Dog Killer' unleashes one of the more rabidly risqué rampages in Euro-crime's uniquely bellicose, bullet-shredded history! No mere exploitation film but a ruthlessly delivered adrenalin shot straight to the heart! I have an unequivocal love for composer, Umberto Smalia's sinfully scintillating, booty motorvatin', ear-wormingly sweet soundtrack!
