'Perfect Creature' (2006) – Glenn Standring.
Writer/director Glenn Standring takes a creditably novel approach to the rather pallid vampire movie mythos, and this much-need infusion of revivifying plasma makes for a frequently exhilarating, Grisly-Gothic horror film. Set in a decayed, gloomily retrograde world, with its groovily distressed 'Brazil' design palate, 'Vampires', known as 'The Brothers' maintained an uneasy alliance with humans, taking a more fraternal approach than is usually depicted, but one especially hateful 'Brother' hungrily thirsts for a grisly return to a more predatory state of Vampire supremacy, and thus begins the maniacal brother's terminally toxic reign of terror, wherein pious vampire Dougray Scott must not only confront this terrible scourge of gruesomely blasphemous blood-letting, he must additionally battle his own increasingly volatile nature! While 'Perfect Creature' is arguably less than perfect, the visually satisfying horror film's novel approach would have benefited greatly from a sequel. 'Perfect Creature' is a nicely put together B-Horror beastie, and the rigorous acting performances, for the most part, are of a high standard, but, for me the film's true strengths reside in its entirely laudable attempt to try something new in a somewhat tired milieu, and the tasty production design ominously invites the viewer into a deliciously doomy realm of apocalyptic, shadow-slaked horror!
