'Desolation' (2017) – Sam Patton.

Two beautiful, fit, outdoorsy women, and a sullen young boy combine a precarious, high altitude hiking trip into some desolated mountains with the more sombre ministrations of dispersing a loved one's ashes, and unpleasantly discover that they might very soon be bloodily exiting their own mortal coils due to the increasingly maniacal machinations of a silently stalking, wizard-looking psycho! While Sam Patton's 'Desolation' is a passable backwoods thriller there's a stultifying sameness about these bloodless escapes that effectively dulls the film's cutting edge, but the sympathetic characters are well-drawn, plus the isolated, mountainous woods provide some additional arboreal menace, and the dastardly Tomas Milian lookie-likie makes for a suitably kooky, sin-seeking, sunglasses sporting killer, but this is ultimately forgettable TV-Movie-of-the-week frippery.
