'Snowtown' (2010) – Justin Kurzel.
An ice-cruel true
crime thriller set in Australia's grim desolated hinterlands that
frequently makes for morbidly compelling viewing. 'Snowtown' is a
starkly disturbing, darkly beguiling suburban serial killer nightmare
that never once loses its unrelentingly fearsome grip, and while oft
exposing the viewer to the egregious savagery of a depraved killer,
it never once feels unjustifiably crude, or exploitative. The
uncommonly raw subject matter is excitingly captured with
exceptionally visceral film-making, as the spiky, sulphurous 'Snowtown' roils with raw, unfiltered aggression, thereby
guaranteeing the frequently frenzied film's many darkly seductive
sequences eerily exudes a mesmerically macabre fascination that you
simply cannot ignore! Powerhouse director Justin Kurzel's singularly
bellicose 'Snowtown' is a modern crime classic wholly deserving of
its lofty reputation, and wickedly talented actor Daniel Henshall's pyrotechnically sadistic small-town psychopath John is one of extreme cinema's most indelibly monstrous movie maniacs! 'Snowtown' is not only a wretched place to live, it's far worse to die there!
