'Restless Natives' (1985) – Michael Hoffman.
Just got to give a big ol' shout-out to one of my all-time fave oddball 80s comedy gems, the altogether riotous, wonderfully idiosyncratic Scotland-set crime caper comedy 'Restless Natives'.A deliriously exhilarating adventure about the free-wheeling law-breaking escapades of two charmingly naïve, thrill-seeking lads who seek to break the monotony of their dreary dead-end job by heroically taking to the highlands as a pair of gloriously inept Suzuki-straddled highwaymen! This deliciously eccentric, beautifully written comedy remains a fabulously funny, bizarrely endearing indie-feature with big laffs, a bigger heart, gutsy, spot-on comedy performances, and a cracking fists-in-the-air, butterflies-in-the-Gulliver 'Big Country' soundtrack, all of these delectably thrilling ingredients make Michael Hoffman's cult favourite 'Restless Natives' a legit must-see, feel good Bobby Dazzler, mayte! Gregory's girl meets 'Men in Tights', well, perhaps not the latter exactly, but it's a uniquely lovable film nonetheless! These Suzuki GP 125-riding rapscallions remain true blue Highland folk heroes that make Gibson's 'Braveheart' look like a half-eaten Haggis!
