'Mother Riley Meets The Vampire' (1952) – John Gilling.

Far from fusty, this fabulously fanciful, fright-filled farce remains an eminently watchable, frequently chucklesome comedy with an exceptionally fine cast, deliciously dominated by Bela Lugosi's wonderfully batty performance as the evilly plotting, uranium coveting, colourfully monologuing mad scientist Von Houson! These unsophisticated, generously jape-laden, enjoyably buffoonish escapades are capably crafted with real zip by the talented, and greatly versatile Hammer Horror director, John Gilling.

This perfectly perky, only partially petrified, engagingly pratfall-packed 50s rib tickler is a terrifically tittersome music hall lark! These pleasingly slapstick slathered, soft-boiled Sci-fi shenanigans benefited hugely from the majestic vamping of fear-master Bela Lugosi, along with the broad, pitch perfect pantomime lunacy by the galloppingly goonish, gorgeously gurning grannie Riley! (Arthur Lucan) For reasons obscure, John Gilling's altogether charming 'Mother Riley Meets The Vampire' doesn't appear to be all too fondly remembered? Well, ya boo sucks to the niggling naysayers, I had fun with it, so there!!!!
