'The Alligator People' (1959) – Roy Del Ruth.

Mulch more than a snappy title, the eerily engaging 50s Sci-horror Bitemare, 'The Alligator People' is sinisterly swamped in scientifically scurrilous sensation! Sultrily set in the brackish, death-infested, mosquito-hazed, bog-sucking wastes of the Bayou; a perilous locale, and should you foolhardily attempt to navigate these insanely imperilled, snake-swarming backwaters, it will, perhaps, already be gator than you think! Far from being a croc, expert B-Movie provocateur Roy Del Ruth's macabre, shock-serrated, mandible mutating crocodilian creature feature remains a midnight movie marvel!

Enlivened by a dynamite cast, macabre make-up FX from maestro Dick Smith, scads of scintillating B-Movie pathos, climaxing in a deliriously demented, radioactively righteous climax, galvanized by a moonshine mental turn by the legendary horror icon Lon Chaney, on unforgettable form as the luridly lecherous caretaker Manon! All your fearfully fizzing corpuscles will be pleasingly agitated by the disastrous DNA dabbling of Dr. Mark Sinclair (George Macready), and Beverly Garland is enormously appealing as Jane Marvin, the tragic, grief-stricken wife of doomed cryptid, Paul Webster (Richard Craine). The luminous Garland expresses great charm, her sympathetic performance imbuing this melancholy, cold hearted creature feature with a palpable humanity!
