'The Initiation of Sarah' (1978) Dir. Robert Day.
This derivative, somewhat creaky made-for-TV 'Carrie' rip-off is almost sunk by, Shelley Winter's woeful performance, happily, the always sympathetic, dazzlingly luminous, Kay Lenz makes this a fitfully fun paranormal pyjama party! As an aside, I always thought plastic fantastic, Morgan Fairchild was a naturally born Stepford Wife! She certainly makes for a splendidly snidey sorority skeezer in 'The Initiation of Sarah'. While the filmmaking and performances are engaging enough, Tisa Farrow is quite charming as the timorous violinist 'Mouse', it's Winters infernal mugging, and the tired text that has accelerated its cinematic obsolescence! Not without camp entertainment value, but those seeking a genuinely creepy 70s TV movie should check out 'A Taste of Evil(1971) or 'She Waits' (1972). Fun fact: legend has it that Fairchild's telekinetically moistened T-Shirt scene caused quite a furore after it was first broadcast!
