'The Last Horror Movie' (2003) - Julian Richards.
One of the deeper cuts in the Tartan DVD catalogue, this insanely gnarly, darkly funny British-made splatter sickie is overdue a revival! Shot in the intimate manner of a grisly video diary, 'The Last Horror Movie' (2003) is a compelling, terrifyingly candid dissection of a deliriously deranged, self loving serial killer at work, rest and play! Hey!! Remember! According to the death-dealing documentarian, Max, a graphic murder-a-day helps keep his sinister suburban ennui at bay! With his dazzlingly reptilian smile, easy deadside manner, Kevin Howarth's narcissistic, Max remains one of the more memorably murderous screen psychopaths. The sadistically unfiltered glee with which, Max cruelly dispatches his many victims grimly provides some disturbingly realistic snuffage! While the luridly lofi snuff movie 'The Last Horror Movie' owes a conspicuous aesthetic debt to 'Henry Portrait of a serial Killer' & 'Man Bites Dog',it has a singularly skewed charm all of its own! In an era increasingly clotted with the pernicious brain blight of 'reality TV', and inane 'Internet Influencers', this grimly self-absorbed slasher feels eerily relevant. - Weirdlingwolf.
