'Angel Guts: Red Classroom' (1979) Dir. Chūsei Sone.

Based on a manga by Takashi Ishii, Chūsei Sone's enjoyably bracing second instalment in the vivid Angel Guts series remains a tremendously exciting proposition! Tantalisingly erotic, with powerful dramatic elements that imbues 'Angel Guts: Red Classroom' with compelling soul-stirring pathos, and the bleak final scene packs quite an emotional punch. For me, there's a Hubert Selby Jr quality to the downbeat, downward-spiralling narrative, making this gutsy pink a far more nuenced work than one may imagine, HIGHLY recommended!
