'Summer Camp Nightmare' (1987) Dir. Burt L. Dragin.

An apparently playful revolution at a kids summer camp becomes all too real in the frequently entertaining, but not always credible thriller 'Summer Camp Nightmare' (1987). Goofy, and mostly fun, but, sadly, the 'Lord of The Flies' element wasn't quite dark enough to give it the grittier edge it needed for this to go fully cult. On a more positive note, the youthful, enjoyably boisterous cast are fantastic, bringing heart and a much-needed sympathy to what might have been a regrettable B-Movie misfire! Being Co-written by, Penelope 'Suburbia' Spheeris, and noting, Roger Corman's executive producer credit, perhaps, suggests that the film may initially have had tougher exploitation origins? Who knows? While I would have preferred the scrappily entertaining film's climax to be a tad more unhinged, I must admit to unequivocally digging, Gary Chase & Ted Neeley's super shrill, uber 80s soundtrack! Be afraid!!! The teenagers are, like, totally revolting!!!!? 

 

 

 'The Beauties and The Beast' (1973) Ray Nadeau.

'The story you are about to see could be true!'

Before proceeding, I would just like to advise viewers of a more sensitive disposition that this untamed, animalistic creature feature contains explicit scenes of a lusty Yeti getting sweaty with a beautiful bevvy of bare-backing, blithely backpacking Betties! Seeking their fleshly frolics in a bucolic mountaintop haven, these horny hippies very soon find themselves in a bit of a toe jam, as this babe hunting Big Foot proves himself a bit of a stone-age ham! 

 

I have nothing but the highest regard for top heavy temptress, Uschi Digard, this sultry Swedish squeeze, built to please, gets this voyeuristic Abominable Snowman conspicuously hard! This cooze-crazed cryptid haunts the impenetrable green belt, this mythical beast, always sin heat, turned on wildly by funky feline heat! Ray Nadeau's amiable backwoods nudie cutie's heroically hirsute hippified hi jinks comedically provides some more than acceptable softcore Sasquatch slap n' tickle! One of the appropriately hairy troubadours in the cast performs a ditty with an especially memorable refrain: 'This gypsy mountain madness running through my brain! makes me do the things I do, lord! it makes me feel inane!' Amen!

 

 

'Ghost in The Machine' (1993) – Rachel Talalay.

Rachel 'Tank Girl' Talalay's slick, surprisingly entertaining, high tech terror flick has a fine cast, and is one of the earliest horror films to feature a fully integrated, virtual reality serial killer. Due to a grievous MRI scanner electrical mishap, ailing homicidal maniac, Karl (Ted Marcoux) is fatefully digitised into a murderously pixelated, computer mainframe dwelling digital despot! This inventive, competently made Sci-Horror has aged remarkably well, excitingly maintaining its sinister, paranoid edge. Solid performances, dynamic set pieces, a great score by, Graeham Ravell, and the imaginative kills remain impactful to this very day. Fans of 'Shocker', 'Prison' and 'The Lawnmower Man' should certainly enjoy the terminal impulses of the demented dial-up death dealer in, Rachel Talalay's high voltage cyber-slasher 'Ghost in The Machine'.

 

 

'RoboGeisha' (2009) - Noboru Iguchi.

I genuinely marvel at the unbound creativity of Iguchi's zestfully eccentric, majestically mutable, freakishly fabulous, deliciously demented, skull-splittingly sensational'RoboGeisha'! This gallopingly gonzo, gore-giddy chunkblower features some insanely inventive mecha-Geisha perpetrated carnage by VFX genius, Tsuyoshi Kazuno! Some of Kazuno's more outlandishly designed, gloriously gaudy prosthetics are truly wondrous to behold! Bullet-paced,gore-garlended, and with nary a static moment, 'RoboGeisha' remains a surrealistic, hyperbolically violent, monstrously fun exercise in unexpurgated, logic-defyingly escapist lunacy! I've never quite understood why someone would favour a tired old slasher over something infinitely more inventive like, Noboru Iguchi's almost absurdly hyperactive, kaleidoscopically kooky, deliriously dismembering, Cyber-Sexy Sci-fi bloodbath 'RoboGeisha'.

 

 

 

'Blind Beast' (1969) Yasuzo Masamura.

Maestro, Yasuzo Masamura's macabre, kinky, eerily surrealistic, deliciously outlandish, and entertainingly warped kidnap shocker retains all of its artfully conceived strangeness! Photographically sublime, exquisitely stylised, and undeniably playful, the risque, offbeat drama's darkly sexual imagery is frequently exciting. Masamura's bracingly outre, sinisterly sardonic 'Blind Beast' is arguably one of the more 'model' examples of transgressive 60s-era Japanese exploitation. 

 

 

'Gun Woman' (2014) - Kurando Mitsutake.

Deadly death-dealing dynamo, Asami is a sinuous, one-woman wrecking machine in, Kurando Mitsutake's hyperbolic, super-splattery shoot 'em up 'Gun Woman'. Thrillingly unhinged, this adrenalized actioner remains a righteously bellicose, blissfully bullet-shredded example of gallopingly gruesome Gunfu! Her beguiling feline beauty belies a vengeful heart, Asami audaciously blasting her way to the plasma-plastered pinnacle of pistol-packing, full throttle'd, lethally clawed Cat III femme fatales!??
