'Out For A Kill' (2003) – Michael Oblowitz.
Some might say the increasingly supine Seagal's over the hill, that he's right porky around the grease-guzzling gills, but ol' helmet hair is always...'Out For a Kill' aka 'Up for a mixed Grill' he's chunky, he'd fight a mad monkey, he's got less screen time than his body double, and he runs like Barney rubble, but this morally asinine Aikido B-Movie torpedo is back on bone-breaking form in 'Out for a Kill'. This 2003 outing is huge fun, ONLY if one can fully suspend the cumbrous disbelief of sinful Seagal playing the scholarly Professor Robert Burns, an archaeologist with an additional pugalistically-inclined PhD in frenziedly-edited, neck-wrecking chop-socky! It all very soon goes Pete 'Tong' as jerky blue-screen car chases lead our bellicose, shellac-haired professor to a splendidly bloody dust up with a Scooby-Doo sinister Triad who woefully underestimated this girthful, skell-smashing gweilo, who not only expertly digs up crusty old bones, he also puts fleshy new ones into the ground with equal efficacy!
Taken as a super trashy B-Movie 'Out for a Kill' works magnificently, the far from mutable Bulgarian locations doubling as 'everywhere' offer a delightfully discombobulating distraction, making the perfectly artificial backdrop for this increasingly bovine bas ass to whisper mush-mouthed mantras before proceeding to violently dim sum these diabolical drug dealing dumdums! As always, sensei Seagal gets the impossibly slinky-looking girl, annihilates everybody in close proximity, and is conspicuously awarded the greatest archaeologist of the world award, so, once again, our inordinately humble head-knocker rights the world's myriad ills with his especially gratuitous violence, which, is, perhaps, the sole reason we continue to watch his increasingly misbegotten action movies. Oh, yes, the 'Mad Monkey Kung Fu scene' is the VERY best in Seagal's altogether questionable latter-day oeuvre, dude! If you can 'dig' the idea of Seagal as a lugubrious, heavy-fisted Archaeologist then you have considerably more imagination that the writer of this wonderful absurdity, all sniping aside, 'Out for a Kill' is bellicose B-movie heaven, and no evening of Pizza n' plentiful beer is remotely complete without it!
