'And Now the Screaming Starts' (1973) - Roy Ward Baker.
Avidly watching as many late-night horror flicks on the analogue telly-box was, perhaps, one of my main childhood obsessions, and maestro Roy Ward Baker's howlingly horrific 'And Now the Screaming Starts' (1973) creepily contributed to my continued moral decline, and for that I am forever grateful! There is a deliciously Gothic, Grand Guinol hysteria in this noisome Amicus classic which I still find utterly irresistible, the full-blooded performances are uniformly zestful, and the inordinately pulchritudinous charms of the sublimely sensuous scream dream Stephanie Beacham remain an uncommonly vivid attraction!!!! And who among us can't readily appreciate some blissfully bra-busting bloodshed, especially when so bloodily administered by a wickedly warped woodcutter in a coldly cobwebbed, wet and windy woodshed????!!!!!
