'The Blockhouse' (1973) – Clive Rees.

That most mercurial acting talent Peter Sellers takes one of his all-too rare 'straight roles' in the witheringly grim, enervating bleak, oppressively crepuscular WW2-era 'The Blockhouse', a bitter, melancholy, pervasively doom-drenched, unrelentingly morose psycho-drama, claustrophobically set within a subterranean, nigh on pitch black subterranean hell-scape that seems all but forgotten these days! Arguably one of the most unsung cult classics of 70s British cinema. A truly spectacular cast, lively, cogent script, and the uniformly raw, gritty performances make Clive Rees's devastating 'The Blockhouse' one desperately harrowing excursion into the blackened realms of the human psyche, and, incredibly, this monstrous human tragedy was based on a true story!!! If Marduk made films, this would be one of 'em!
