'Time Traveller' aka' 'The Lovers' (2015) - Roland Joffé.

That the colourfully sweeping 'Time Traveller' aka' 'The Lovers' (2015) finally proved to be such an exhilaratingly, emotionally satisfying, extraordinarily visual feast happily confounded my somewhat modest expectations! Initial reservations resolutely dissolved, I was very soon swept up in gifted story teller Roland Joffé's excitingly far-flung, sumptuous-looking, future-warping adventure, tantalisingly transported to a storied time of breathless heroism, bravura, blood-rousing battles, all consuming love, and murderous acts of diabolical betrayal! The rousing action, and the many beautiful exteriors are exquisitely captured by DP's Michael Coulter & Ben Nott. The stolid, no frills Josh Hartnett & his delectably frilly partner Bipasha Basu make for an engaging pair of passionate, increasingly ardent, metaphysically entwined lovers! Plentiful hot flushes of majestic Mills & Boom swoon are to be found in Joffé's undeniably romantic, dazzlingly dramatic Sci-fantasy epic! And, as always, the sublimely charismatic actor Roshan Seth oozes a mythic gravitas as the knowledgable, epigrammatic sage Sadu. And it was truly wonderful to see cult 70s hero Shane Briant delivers another deliciously malevolent performance as the duplicitous, port-sodden Governor Hornby. 'Time Traveller' is an entirely pleasant distraction, enjoyably melodramatic, charmingly sweet natured, a propah old school, footsies up with Tea & Crumpets, sword and corsetry yarn that the good doctor Richard Chamberlain proved so adept at once upon a more innocent time...
