'The Last Line of Defense' (1999) - Phillip J. Roth.
One sure-fire way to effectively combat PAMD (Persistent Awesome Movie Depletion) is to liberally self-medicate with the conspicuously 'awesome-overload' of amiable late 90s Sci-Fighting fare like, Phillip J. Roth's Extra Terrestrially titillating DTV actioner, 'The Last Line of Defense'. Granted, no previously undiscovered midnight movie masterpiece, it's competently made, and is enlivened with a suitably heroic performance by the frequently overlooked action star, Olivier Gruner, robustly supported by a groovy cast of familiar genre faces: Brad Dourif, William Zabka, and the effortlessly engaging actor, Ernie Hudson.
Following a largely one-sided dogfight betwixt a trio of stealth bombers and a dazzlingly quicksilver UFO, this ferociously fugly alien crash lands on earth, but clearly DIDN'T reckon on the persistent push back from handsome high-kicking pugilist, Olivier 'Nemesis' Gruner! Gruner's audaciously slick Kickboxing prowess providing a number of bellicose Alien vs. Alpha ass-kicker beatdowns! While plainly derivative, Roth's pacey,'The Last Line of Defense' aka 'Interceptor Force' boisterously provides some unexpectedly fun, Sixer-ready, B-Movie brain-melt, operating in the same adrenalized martial arts milieu of DTV gems, 'Cyborg Cop' or PM Entertainment's curiously underrated Sci-actioners,'Dark Breed' & 'T-Force'. Zestily imbued with a funky techno score, 'The Last Line of Defense' has more than enough eccentricity to keep psychotronic freaks amused!
