'Police, Adjective' (2009) - Corneliu Poromboiu.

This remarkably lucid film, full of singular intrigue, and meticulous detail is powered by an unusually perceptive text, thereby successfully making for objectively fabulous cinema! One of the boldest, refreshingly unconventional cop procedurals I can recall seeing, the frustratingly repetitive, Kafkaesque routine of conspicuously moral proletariat cop Cristi (Dragos Bucur) is captured with a documentary-like intimacy, frequently enlivened by sardonic flourishes of Kaurismäki, Jarmusch, and culminating in a staggering anti-climax ensure 'Police, Adjective' remains a memorably idiosyncratic delight! Poromboiu's immaculately crafted, deliciously deadpan drama, while often hilarious, is very much one to ponder lengthily upon afterwards. Winningly, and not a trope in sight, Poromboiu's richly nuenced, wholly naturalistic Mise-en-scène draws you ever deeper into morally conflicted cop, Cristi's banally exacting surveillance of a guileless teenage dope smoker whose sole crime seems to be that of youthful indiscretion! The engaging narrative's appealing lack of artifice adds verisimilitude to gifted filmmaker, Corneliu Poromboiu's deceptively profound dissection of entrenched bureaucratic idiocy.
