'Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei (1987). Dir Mizuho Nishikubo.

I really love the trenchant weirdness of this colourfully off-beat 80s Manga gem! It plays out in an enjoyably lurid fashion, employing a sinisterly strange Lovecraftian take on cult horror classic 'Evilspeak' (1983). Creepy Computer kid invokes mythological demon, Loki, who then immediately runs bloodily amok, cue wildly psychedelic eruptions of pinkly tendrilled terror, gloopy oodles of perverse, pan dimensional devilry, and hyperbolically acrobatic good vs evil sky bound combat!  While the plot is especially strong, Nishikubo's bedevilled manga includes some captivating artwork, engaging fantasy elements, and the righteously groovy, synth-heavy score is monstrously ear-worming treat!
