'Evil Heart' (1985) - Hikari Hayakawa.
This darkly engrossing, immaculately made, quite literally heart-wrenching J-Horror classic opens anxiously with an excitable group of schoolgirls exchanging scary stories. Based on, Kazuo Umezu's book 'The Horror', Hikari Hayakawa's cult S.O.V chiller still has much to recommend it to rabid J-Horror fans. The text is quality, wherein the dramatic elements are certainly no less compelling than the bravura interludes of visceral gore! Two good friends innocently make an earnest, yet ill-fated pledge, if one became terminally ill, the other would gladly offer them their heart! Needless to say, when this uncomfortably stark reality gruesomely manifests itself for real, Hayakawa's macabre mini-shocker thrillingly lives up to its moniker!
