'Kolobos' (1999) – Daniel Liatowitsch & David Todd Ocvirk.

This wildly entertaining, meticulously gory, booby trap-laden, high-tech slasher cleverly subverts the age-old home invasion trope by perversely having the horror-hyped house invade you! A diverse group of amiable teens respond to an enticing advert offering work to charismatic, adventurous seeking free spirits willing to participate in a bold, avant-garde film project.

Not too long after they have excitedly settled into this spacious, all mod cons, camera-filled house when someone, or 'something's' proceeds to bump them off in a spectacularly inventive manner! With sinister shades of Donald Cammell's 'Demon Seed', Kolobos effectively retools the tired slasher schematic for the noughties. Seen today,Liatowitsch & Ocvirk's audaciously forward-thinking Kolobos remains an ominously claustrophobic, slickly invigorating Giallo-centric horror film. Energetic performances, a smart text, Suspiria-inspired theme, mayhemic mechanized murder, an exhilarating climax, and a cameo by, Linnea Quigley, what more could any splatter mad hatter really ask for, dude?
