'The Shrine' (2010) – Jon Knautz.
The talented director behind cult Canadian favourite 'Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer' spawns an altogether more monstrous manifestation of spine-grinding torment in the unholy nightmare of 'The Shrine'. A pretty, self-centered journalist investigates the cold case of a missing young American backpacker last seen in far-flung, way off-grid Alvania. After her bland, frequently annoying photographer boyfriend, and naïve Intern arrive at this retrograde village in rural Poland, they venture deep into the ominously foggy fairy tale forest. Soon discombobulated, they become evilly enshrouded in an alien, impenetrably dense mist! This sinisterly demon-seeded shocker taking a fatal turn for these hapless explorers who gruesomely discover that the eternally evil edifice within the blackened heart of this misbegotten forest is best left undisturbed! The fearful fog dissipates, eerily exposing the ungodly truth of their dire predicament, they will sacrifice all vestiges of sanity to the excruciating realities borne of 'The Shrine'! With its grisly Gothic atmosphere, doomy, fear-fogged mystery, bloody black magic'd mayhem, and a twisted finale 'The Shrine' remains a blasphemous, gorily chunk-blowing B-Horror bacchanal grave enough to wake the ancient dead!
