'The Tripper' (2006) – David Arquette.

The main problem with 'deliberately' created comedy horror is the all-too frequent lack of balance, it's either not especially funny, or far too jocular to still function as a horror film, and with this narrative balancing act being such an eternally tricky one, it is to talented writer/director David Arquette's great credit that his savagely satirical, deliriously drug-dazed, psychedelically-inclined grindhouse gag-fest 'The Tripper' is bloodily disgraced with one of modern horror's more idiosyncratic axe-wielding maniacs since Maggie Thatcher stuck it to the working classes in the 80s, and clearly gifted first-time director had the foresight to work with some exceptionally fine acting talent, garnering delightful turns from Jason Mewes, Thomas Jane, Lukas Haas, and a garishly animated Jamie King shines especially brightly proving herself to be an exceptionally rigorous final girl! Not long after this muddle-headed, motley crew of dope-addled misfits arrive at some ramshackle open-air 'happening' when this blissed-out love rather bloodily becomes a terrifically tripped-out, teeth-grindingly grisly gore-fest, as as counter culture crippling, rampaging republican Ronnie heroically hacks up hundreds of hapless hippies with the very same alacrity his nefarious namesake dispatched the healthcare budget! David Arquette's sublimely silly stoner slasher is a ruthlessly effective satire, and his magnificently mad Ronnie most certainly gets my vote, since he's one memorably Tripped-out maniac destined for cinematic gory!
