'What Keeps You Alive' (2018) – Colin Minihan.

Colin Minihan's grisly psychological shocker 'What Keeps You Alive' is a starkly paranoid fantasy over the profound existential angst, and frequent physical risk inherent within the not always blissful bonds of matrimony, i.e., Minihan's fitfully amusing narrative gruesomely expounds upon the age-old Hitchcockian trope of marital duplicity, as no one is ever quite sure what manner of singular weirdness lies deeply hidden beneath the alluring smile that so dazzlingly convinced you that he, or she was 'the one'! And while gentle Jules (Brittany Allen) clearly dotes upon her beautiful wife Jackie (Hannah Emily Anderson), the increasingly dominant Jackie seems to harbour ulterior motives, as for reasons wholly obscure, the makers of 'What Keeps You Alive' noisily telegraph Jackie's malign nature a little too early in the first, all import act to instil any genuinely deep-seated tension.

All that being said it's still kinda' fun watching the deliciously demented, stab-happy skeezer Jackie creepily 'cat and spouse' poor beleaguered wifey Jules in a rewardingly blood-thirsty backwoods-sinister stylee! While I can freely state that this stylish sapphic slasher 'Almost Kept Me Awake', it not infrequently felt like an extended episode of 'Dexter', which, perhaps, is no bad thing! The gutsy performances from the two committed leads are convincing, the picturesque location is disarmingly beauteous, and I most certainly got a righteous B-Movie buzz from juicy-looking Jackie's jugular-jacking rampage, but, on quiet reflection, the not entirely dissimilar indie horror film 'Honeymoon' took a far more novel approach to the ol' sinister spouse-slaying shenanigans.
