'Confessions' (2010) - Tesuya Nakashima.

The mesmerizing, slow burning, emotionally dense, inventively shot J-Horror masterpiece 'Confessions' has a lucid text, with an impeccable central performance by the quite brilliant, Takako Matsu. No less gifted filmmaker, Tesuya Nakashima's stark, bracingly adult, profoundly immersive thriller pulls no punches, the relentlessly bleak narrative proves frequently unsettling, it nonetheless remains an unusually compelling experience. Stylised, intense, flawlessly acted, and rigorously humane, 'Confessions' is exemplary cinema, drawing you ever deeper into the morbidly fascinating, squalling madness of a grieving mother's meticulously realised revenge.
